Not often do you see the best in the business make a meal out of easy chances. But the fourth game of the ongoing WPL between the Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru was different for Annabel Sutherland and Meg Lanning was looked lost on a potential catching opportunity.

Eyeing to field first and capitalize on the dew later, RCB’s strong start with the ball was neutralized by a 59-run stand between Jemimah Rodrigues and Meg Lanning. However, the defending champions bounced back strong with Georgia Wareham and Renuka Thakur’s respective three-fers restricting the opposition to 141 runs in the first over. In reply, the Bengaluru unit got off to a massive hundred-plus partnership before Danny Wyatt-Hodge was caught in the eleventh over with the score 107/1. Just when the Capitals needed to exert additional pressure, a schoolboy error between Annabel Sutherland and Meg Lanning costs them Ellyse Perry’s crucial wicket.

On the fourth ball of the twelfth over, Jess Jonassen sprayed a fuller one near the fourth stump to Perry who shimmied down the ground to loft it over mid off. Unfortunately, the Aussie legend miscued the stroke, and the ball skewed behind Lanning at extra cover who gestured Sutherland at mid off to go for the catch. However, the young all-rounder didn’t realise her skipper’s order, and instead, waited for her to back-peddle for the catch. Eventually, the miscommunication cost a pivotal wicket as the ball landed between the two fielders, sparking Twitterverse discourse.
