IND vs SA | Twitter reacts as UltraEdge's battle with Snicko continues with controversial Abhishek dismissal

The advent of internet has made the world a 'global village', where controversy Down Under can infect a cricket match over 5,000 miles away. After Snicko controversies gripped the Ashes in Adelaide, India got their own taste of it with UltraEdge when Abhishek Sharma walked off on Friday unconvinced.

Abhishek Sharma was left displeased by the DRS decision

India got off to the best start possible in the last match of a marathon South Africa tour, in Ahmedabad on Friday, as the explosive pair of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson went hell for leather against the new ball. The former got the pipes flowing with an authoritative hit down the ground against Lungi Ngidi first ball, before subjecting Marco Jansen to a hattrick of boundaries at the start of his spell. By the sixth over, the southpaw had already raced to 34 with six boundaries and a maximum to his name, and looked destined to go big on a highway-like deck. However, fate cut his stay short through a well-directed Corbin Bosch bumper just a couple of balls before the powerplay was due to end, but few were left convinced by the decision made.

After Abhishek slammed him over cover for maximum, Bosch went short and fast down leg and Abhishek instinctively swung his bat with full furor at the Kookaburra. However, it climbed just enough to miss the willow and travelled through to the wicketkeepr Quinton de Kock, who routinely collected it without any reaction to boot. Even Bosch only appealed half-heartedly, hoping against hope, and to his delight the umpire's finger went up to rule Abhishek out. The batter did not waste a moment in signalling for the review, convinced he had made no contact with the white rock as he confidently bumped fists with Samson. However, replays suggested the ball had passed right next to Abhishek's gloves, at which point the third umpire moved to UltraEdge. As the ball went past Abhishek's bat, the UltraEdge flatline showcased a slight murmur, with the tiniest of spikes to accompany just as the ball went past Abhishek's gloves. Unconvinced, the umpire called for another angle but with none available, he had to make do with a couple of rock-and-rolls before adjudging there was no conclusive evidence to overturn the on-field decision. The Proteas were ecstatic, while Abhishek looked around in shock before finally walking off mumbling a string of expletives.

Ironically, across the ocean controversy had been brewing in Ashes over the couple of days with UltraEdge's competitor Snicko's lack of sync between the audio and video feed which had caused a spree of verifiably incorrect decisions, thus provoking experts to cite the UltraEdge as the clearly better technology. As you can imagine, Twitterati had a lot to say about it.
