Bangladeshi openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam began their innings with a measured approach, cautiously accumulating runs to reach 26/0 after eight overs. The surface exhibited considerable bounce and pace, creating opportunities for the bowlers. Sensing the moment was right, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma introduced Akash Deep into the attack who was spot on in taking the first wicket of Zakir Hasan. On the first ball of the 13th over, the Bengal pacer bowled a length delivery that angled in on the pads from around the wicket. However, the determined pacer urged Rohit to consider a DRS review. In a last-minute decision, the Indian captain opted to take the review.

However, it then revealed that the delivery was indeed hitting the leg stump, giving a significant boost to Akash Deep's confidence. As the umpire raised his finger to signal out, Rohit was visibly surprised, and in a moment of celebration, he embraced Akash Deep warmly.
