Injured Suryakumar Yadav to miss first round of Duleep Trophy
In a latest development, Suryakumar Yadav’s route to red-ball cricket has been halted by an unprecedented injury, ruling him out of the first round of the Duleep Trophy, starting September 5. He was injured during Mumbai’s Buchi Babu Trophy encounter against TNCA while fielding in Chennai.
Suryakumar was one of the popular capped cricketers along with Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan who played in the Buchi Babu Tournament. In the recent round of the prestigious tournament, the 33-year-old was fielding at short leg when Pradosh Ranjan Paul of Tamil Nadu tried to whip a floated fuller delivery from Musheer Khan towards the square leg region. In an attempt to catch the ball, Suryakumar dived to his right and eventually hurt his fingers as the white rock escaped through his hold.Â
Subsequently, the Mumbaikar was seen in agonizing pain as he wrung his finger until the physio arrived. Ultimately, he could not field and trudged off the field. In addition, he did not come out to bat in Mumbai’s second innings as they failed to chase down a target of 489 runs.Â
Following his injury it is confirmed that the Indian T20I skipper would not be able to participate in the first round of Duleep Trophy. Currently, he has been advised by the medical staff to rest in NCA. Suryakumar Yadav is a part of Team C in the competition with Ruturaj Gaikwad as the captain.Â
India A will square off against India B at the ACA ADCA Ground, Anantapur while India C and D will go up against one another at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru in the first round of the tourney.
