BAN vs SA | Twitter bewildered as Bangladesh earns ten runs on first ball before batters even get off the mark
Numbers can often be misleading, painting a picture that hides the real story behind the data. As the Bangladesh scoreboard read 10/0 with just one ball being bowled in the second innings of the second Test, a similar confusion was created, before the laws of cricket dehazed the picture.
Kagiso Rabada donned the red new cherry as Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam faced the first ball. The bowler dished it on a good length that seamed a bit away from the southpaw from the fifth stump line with the batter leaving it alone. The next delivery was a tad wayward and down the leg stump that the batter left again and the keeper failed to cover up despite a huge dive. After the ball raced towards the boundary ropes, the onfield umpire was seen gesturing for a no-ball as the pacer had overstepped on the popping crease. Subsequently, the score read 10/0 in just one legal delivery, leaving the Twitterverse bewildered.
Moments later, it was clarified that there was five penalty runs that the hosts earned as Muthusamy stepped across the middle of the pitch despite warning from the umpire during South Africa’s first innings
As per the MCC laws 41.2.1.1, If this is a first offence by that side, the bowler's end umpire shall then:
- summon the offending player's captain and issue a first and final warning which shall apply to all members of the team for the remainder of the match.
- warn the offending player's captain that any further such offence by any member of his/her team shall result in the award of 5 Penalty runs to the opposing team.
Starts with 5! LOL xD xD

Great innings!
This guy’s success somehow feels personal. Seen him at Grace Road so many times. Humble and hardworking man. Feels so good when such players achieve good things.
