With a major tournament on the horizon, players often seize local competitions to shine and make a statement. Such was the case in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy clash in Indore, where Baroda’s Hardik Pandya demonstrated his batting prowess, smashing four consecutive boundaries off Gurjapneet Singh.

Tamil Nadu put on a stellar batting display, propelled by N Jagadeesan’s quickfire 57 off 32 and Vijay Shankar’s explosive 42 off 22. Their efforts guided the team to a formidable total of 221/6 in 20 overs. Baroda’s chase, however, started on a shaky note as Sandeep Warrier dismissed Mitesh Patel in the third over. Ninad Rathva and Shivalik Sharma steadied the innings briefly, taking the score to 66/3, but both departed by the eighth over.

The game turned on its head when Hardik Pandya took center stage. Smashing a blistering 69 off just 30 balls, Pandya single-handedly steered Baroda to victory. Pandya’s assault began with a fuller delivery on leg stump, which he dispatched over deep mid-wicket for a towering six. The next ball, a similar line on off stump, met the same fate as Pandya powered it over long-on. He continued his dominance and lofted the third delivery over long-off for another six. A no-ball from Gurjapneet only added to the chaos, as Pandya hammered the free hit for yet another maximum before finishing the over with a boundary. Gurjapneet, visibly dejected, could only watch as Pandya’s carnage stole the spotlight
