WATCH, WBBL | Commentator Katey Martin hides behind sound bars after fluffed catching attempt
Failing to perform in a full-packed stadium can often turn out to be an embarrassing situation that can lower an athlete’s morale. A similar incident happened with former cricketer turned commentator Katie Martin who was left in embarrassment after attempting a catch during the latest WBBL clash.
Eyeing to rise through the table in an exhilarating Melbourne derby, the Renegades won the toss and elected to bat first. Kim Garth and Marizanne Kapp donned the new ball for the Stars and wreaked havoc at the opposition's top order before Georgia Wareham and Nicole Faltun stabilised the stage from 48/5. Their 77-run partnership coupled with Georgia Prestwidge’s six set up the Renegades' 170-run total, amidst a six in the 19th over that duly embarrassed commentator Martin.
The second ball of the 19th over saw Annabel Sutherland come over the wicket and bowl a fuller delivery down the leg stump to Prestwidge. The right-handed batter made quick room and slogged it over deep mid wicket where the camera caught Martin in focus outside the ropes. The commentator who was initially seated beside the music bars intended to catch the ball that would end up as a six but ended up with a hilarious fumble. The ball gushed through the arms of Martin leaving her in embarrassment as she hurled back and hid herself behind the music bars.
That's funny!
PUT IT DOWN! was right there, but she couldn't take a catch at the MCG 🤣
