SA vs IND | Twitter reacts to Varma and Samson’s centuries dent Proteas as India seal series 3-1
India beat South Africa by 135 runs to seal the four-match series 3-1. Fantastic centuries from Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma helped India set up a mammoth 283 runs total that South Africa struggled to surpass with Arshdeep Singh’s three-fer paving way for the spinners to weave their magic.
Eyeing to seal the series away from home, Suryakumar Yadav won the first toss of the ensuing series and opted to field bat first. Openers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson survived the first over from Marco Jansen with luck but made the most out of it with belligerent ball-striking inside a 73-run powerplay. While the southpaw departed a ball before the powerplay ended, another left-hander joined in to take center stage. A couple of eight runs over followed before the right-hander switched gears. 40 runs came in the next two overs with India’s score reading 129/1 and Samson already passed fifty. Despite all the odds, the carnage continued with Tilak joining hands with Samson. 70 runs came in the next four overs with India’s score reaching 199. All of a sudden Tilak took the charge in the driver’s seat and at one point in time, the score reflected both batters at 93. The pair added some more runs with the bat to notch up respective centuries and propel India to a record-breaking 283-run score.
In contrast, South Africa’s aim to start on a high was subdued by Arshdeep Singh’s new ball spell and Hardik Pandya’s maiden wicket over at the start. The former removed Reeza Hendricks, Aiden Markram, and Heinrich Klaasen while the latter got the better of Ryan Rickelton inside a 30-run powerplay. Tristan Stubbs and David Miller took their time to revive them from 10/4 with a fifty-plus partnership, taking South Africa to 73/4 in ten overs. Just when the pair looked to switch gears, Varun Chakravarthy having the last laugh over David Miller followed by Ravi Bishnoi removing Stubbs for 43. Andile Simelane followed suit in the next over before Gerald Coetzee departed amidst a few lusty blows from Marco Jansen lighting up the crowd. The tail tried to smack the bowlers recklessly but the equation was practically out of their hands as India bundled them for 148 and earned a 135 runs victory, thereby sealing the series 3-1.
