IPL 2024 | Twitter reacts to vintage Bhuvi wrecking table-toppers as SRH bounce back in cliffhanger
Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Rajasthan Royals by a run to bounce back after a couple of losses. Stellar knocks from Travis Head, Nitish Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen helped them eclipse fifties from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag with Bhuvneshwar’s bowling producing RR’s second defeat in IPL 2024.
Brief Scores: SRH: 201/3 [Nitish: 78*, Head: 58; Avesh: 4-0-39-2] beat RR: 200/7 [Parag: 77, Jaiswal: 67; Bhuvneshwar: 4-0-41-3] by one run.
Winning the toss and choosing to bat first did not work well for the Orange Army as the ploy of bringing Ravichandran Ashwin with the new ball put dot ball pressure on Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. In the fifth over, Avesh Khan earned the dividends after Sharma holed out in the deep followed by Sandeep Sharma getting the better of Anmolpreet Singh in the final over of the 37-run powerplay. Subsequently, Head and Nitish Kumar Reddy added 38 runs for four overs with an 18-run over off Chahal. Eventually, the pair tailored a 96 runs partnership with the 20-year-old targeting the spinners during the middle overs. While Head departed for 58 after an umpiring howler went his favour, the introduction of Heinrich Klaasen neutralized the effect of the dismissal. Both Nitish and Klaasen smacked the RR bowlers, left, right, and center to gather 70 runs off the last five overs with Chahal ending up with his worst IPL figure (62/0) as SRH posted 201/3 in 20 overs.
In response, Bhuvneshwar Kumar repaid the captain’s faith by extracting two wickets in the first over by toppling Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson with lethal swing. Unbothered by the early blow, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag soaked up pressure and capitalised on the field restrictions to pile up 60 runs in the powerplay. The pair added 40 runs in the next four overs to stitch 100 runs halfway through the chase. Although Natarajan tried to curb runs from one end, runs leaked from the other end with Parag and Jaiswal reaching respective fifties before the latter gifted away his wicket in the 14th over. RR reached 160 runs in 16 overs with Parag holing in the deep in the 16th over. Although Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell cultivated 15 runs off the next over against Jansen, two wickets fell in the ensuing two overs with a seven-run 19th over from Cummins trimming it down to 13 required from the last over. With Ashwin taking a single on the first ball, three doubles and a four curtailed it down to two required off the last ball. However, the hopes of a super over was diminished by Bhuvneshwar who trapped Rovman on the last ball to help SRH bounce back by a run’s victory.

- Head and his adaptability. 👌
Controversial
Travis Head was given not-out, Sangakkara was unhappy, asking questions to the umpire near dug-out and next ball Head got out.
