AUS vs BAN | Twitter reacts to Warner-Cummins gallantry rattling Bangladesh in rain-affected encounter
Australia thrashed Bangladesh in their respective first game of the Super Eight stage by 28 runs (DLS method). Pat Cummins and Adam Zampa starred with the ball, curbing the Tigers to 140 before an attacking top-order approach sealed the deal for the Kangaroos amidst haphazard rain interruptions.
The coin favoured Mitchell Marsh in the rain-delayed start and Mitchell Starc backed the decision to field first by outsmarting Tanzid Hasan Tamim in the first over itself. However, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Litton Das steadied the ship with a measured approach, culminating in a 39-run powerplay before Adam Zampa cleaned up the latter to end a 58-run stand in the ninth over. Next over, Glenn Maxwell denied the successful implementation of Rishad Hossain’s promotion by outwitting him as Bangladesh’s score read 67/3 in ten overs. The Tigers added 36 runs in the next six overs before Towhid Hridoy unleashed back-to-back sixes against Marcus Stoinis in the 17th over. However, Cummins returned with the ball for a couple of overs, picked up a hattrick, and restricted the Bangladesh side to 140/8 in 20 overs.
Following a delayed start due to a passing shower, the Australian openers, David Warner and Travis Head charged the opposition bowlers left, right, and center to sum up a 60-run powerplay with 38 coming off the last three. Soon, the rain returned causing a brief delay before Rishad Hossain scalped a couple of wickets, sending Travis Head and Mitch Marsh packing. However, Glenn Maxwell entered the fray and played some charismatic strokes along with Warner, steering Australia’s tally to 100/2 in 11.2 overs before the showers returned and had the final say. The Kangaroos were 28 runs ahead in DLS par score and gathered a couple of points to equalize India’s tally in Group 1 of the Super Eight stage.
