Despite winning the toss and drawing early blows, Shakib Al Hasan’s 64* steered Bangladesh to a comprehensive 159 runs total. The seamers along with Rishad Hossain’s three-fer didn’t let any partnership grow long as Bangladesh beat Netherlands by 25 runs to strengthen their Super Eight chances.

Brief Scores: BAN: 159/5 [Shakib: 64*, Tanzid: 35; van Meekeren: 2/15] beat NED: 134/8 [Engelbrecht: 33, Vikramjit: 25; Rishad: 3/33] by 25 runs.

Following a rain interruption, Scott Edwards, the Netherlands captain won the toss and elected to field first. Aryan Dutt, the right arm offie, came in as a tactical change in the Dtuch setup and made his presence felt by scalping two wickets inside the powerplay. Following 54 runs inside the field restrictions, Shakib Al Hasan opted for a measured approach despite wickets falling from the opposite end in the form of Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Towhid Hridoy. With the score reading 96/4 in 13 overs, a couple of good seam bowling exerted pressure back on the Tigers before Mahamdullah Riyad broke free with a couple of fours and a six in the 16th over. Although he got dismissed in the next over, Jaker Ali’s 7-ball 14 cameo coupled with Shakib’s 46-ball 64 steered the Asian side to 159/5 in 20 overs.

Similar to their counterparts, the Netherlands lost a couple of wickets inside the powerplay before Vikramjit Singh and Sybrand Engelbrecht took an aggressive approach against the spinners, taking down Shakib Al Hasan and Rishad Hossain for 14 runs each in the 7th and 9th over. With 74/3 in ten overs, skipper Scott Edwards accompanied Engelbrecht for a 43-run partnership before Rishad Hossain produced a double wicket 15th over. From a winning position in the game, the Netherlands lost four wickets in a space of 15 balls, bringing the equation down to 36 off 12 balls. Subsequently, Mustafizur Rahman conceded only three runs in the 19th over, leaving Taskin Ahmed successfully defend 33 in the last over as Bangladesh win by 25 runs.
