‌SL vs IND | Twitter reacts to spin mayhem provoke Lankan choke as India clinch series in Super Over showdown

Winning the rain-delayed toss and opting to field first paid rich dividends for the Lankan side with their bowlers drawing early bloods. Maheesh Theekshana trapped Yashasvi Jaiswal followed by debutant Chamindu Wickramasinghe removing Sanju Samson for a duck. Rinku Singh, who was promoted to No.4 failed terribly and Suryakumar Yadav followed suit to wrap up a 30/4 powerplay score. Subsequently, Shivam Dube tried to tick the scoreboard with Gill but failed to last long, leaving India at 53/5 in nine overs. Riyan Parag joined the vice-captain in a 49-run sixth wicket stand with the former smacking a couple of sixes against Wanindu Hasaranga in the 14th over before the bowler had the last laugh by outwitting the two in the 16th over. With the visitors’ score reading 105/7 with four overs to go, Washington Sundar’s 18-ball 25 steered India to 137/9 in 20 overs. 

Unlike the opposition, Sri Lanka got off to a stable start, scoring 35 runs inside the powerplay without any hiccups. The openers, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis extended their opening stand to the fifty-run mark by the eighth over before Ravi Bishnoi drew the first breakthrough with Nissanka holing in the deep. However, the Kusal duo began their onslaught on the Indian bowlers and built a 41-run stand cruising the scorecard to 99/1 in 14 overs. With 39 needed off the last six overs, the home side added 18 runs in as many balls for the loss of three wickets, including Sundar’s double-wicket 17th over. To India’s misfortune, Khaleel bowled five wides in the 18th over before Rinku Singh’s double-wicket 19th overturned the table with Lankans needing run-a-ball six. With the ball turning square and an unexpected bounce on offer, Surya took matters into his own hands by bowling the last over. With six runs needed off the last over, the Indian Skipper generated some magical bowling scalping Kamindu Mendis and Maheesh Theekshana on the second and third deliveries of the over. With six needed off three deliveries, the thrill doubled as Sri Lanka scampered a couple of doubles to lead to a Super Over. 

Washington Sundar was brilliant in earning a couple of wickets halfway through the Super Over’s first innings before Surya hit a four off the first ball to chase down a three-run target with ease and clinched the three-match series.
