ENG vs WI | Twitter erupts as debutant Louis nails bullseye to bring padded Anderson in farewell Test
Not always do you get the chance to manufacture a Legend’s grand reception. But debutant Mikyle Louis did a similar, courtesy of an outstanding runout that paved the way for James Anderson to stroll out with the bat on his farewell Test against West Indies at the Home of Cricket.
Harry Brook and Joe Root resumed the second day of the Lord’s Test from where they paused on the first day by carefully negating the West Indies bowlers. However, Alzarri Joseph and Gudakesh Motie ensured to make further inroads with the rest of the bowlers following and an excellent runout at the fag end of their innings brought James Anderson into the field, greeted by a standing ovation from the crowd.
On the second ball of the 90th over, Jayden Seales bowled a fuller one outside the stumps that Jamie Smith tried to heave but got the leading edge flying in front of deep cover. Mikyle Louis sprang in from the deep and nailed a direct hit at the non-striker’s end with Shoaib Bashir almost a foot away from reaching the crease in an attempt at a double. Soon, the debut Windies player was ecstatic and sprinted around the field receiving applause from teammates. However, the attention rapidly switched towards the incoming batter James Anderson who was seen walking downstairs from the iconic Lord’s long room and entering the field on his farewell Test. The crowd greeted him with a standing ovation, and the Twitterverse joined in as well.
