ZIM vs IND | Twitter goes berserk as Abhishek clubs hattrick of sixes to notch maiden International ton
In a nation of 1.4 billion, cricketing talent is abundant, and Abhishek Sharma could be the latest rising star. He announced his arrival in the international circuit by clobbering three back-to-back sixes to notch up his maiden century in the second T20I against Zimbabwe in Harare.
Unlike the first T20I where India lost the game, the decision to bat first after winning the toss paid dividends for Shubman Gill and Co. Although the captain failed to get going, his opening partner tonked the Zimbabwe bowlers left, right, and center after scoring a fifty in 33 balls. The Punjab-bred cricketer brought up his maiden international ton in the next 13 balls, leaving a mark in his second game for the national team.
Abhishek’s score read 42-ball 83 after the 13th over when Wellington Masakadza was summoned to bowl. After a double and a single from Ruturaj Gaikwad in the first couple of deliveries, the southpaw whacked a tossed-up fuller one over deep mid-wicket for a six. He followed it up with another maximum in the same direction by shimmying down the ground and going full monty. With Abhishek’s score reading 94, the youngster connected a low full-toss outside the leg stump with a paddle to help the ball maroon over the fine leg ropes. Bringing up his maiden century by smashing a hat-trick of sixes, Abhishek erupted in celebration, sending the Twitterverse into a frenzy.
