England calls up Olly Stone to fill Mark Wood's shoes for Lord's Test
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced that right-arm fast bowler Olly Stone will step in for the injured Mark Wood in the playing XI for the second Test against Sri Lanka at Lord's, which begins on 29 August. Wood suffered a thigh injury on the third day of the first Test.
Stone was originally included in the squad but was released before the series began to play in the County Championship. The 30-year-old has played in three Test matches, taking 10 wickets at an average of 19.40. His speed and ability to generate bounce make him a formidable option, particularly on the Lord's deck, which tends to benefit seamers.
England's lineup remains unchanged from the first Test, with Dan Lawrence retaining his position as an opener after scoring 30 and 34 in the previous match. The team continues to adjust to the absence of regular captain Ben Stokes and opener Zak Crawley, who are both out due to injuries.
England XI for the second Test against Sri Lanka: Ben Duckett, Dan Lawrence, Ollie Pope (c), Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jamie Smith (wk), Chris Woakes, Gus Atkinson, Matthew Potts, Olly Stone, ā Shoaib Bashir
