Bairstow, Moeen dropped as Bethell, Hull, and Mousley set for white-ball debut against Australia
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has revealed its squad for the upcoming white-ball series against Australia. The board has decided to release Moeen Ali and Jonny Bairstow from the team while introducing Jacob Bethell, Josh Hull, and Dan Mousley, who will make their debut for England.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has named five uncapped players in the 15-member T20I squad. Essex batter Jordan Cox, Warwickshire duo Jacob Bethell and Dan Mousley, Leicestershire seamer Josh Hull, and Hampshire fast bowler John Turner is all set to debut for England.Â
For the ODI series, Gus Atkinson, Harry Brook, Matthew Potts, Jamie Smith, and Josh Hull have been included in the squad.
Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali, and Chris Jordan, all of whom were part of England's squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, have not been selected for either the T20I or ODI squads. Additionally, Tom Hartley, who was part of the English side during their Caribbean tour, has also been left out.
Notably, Mark Wood will miss the upcoming series due to injuries. The 34-year-old sustained a right muscle strain during the first Test against Sri Lanka and has been ruled out of the remaining two Tests against the Lankans.
Meanwhile, Jos Buttler will be returning from a calf strain sustained during preparations for The Hundred and will captain the side in both the ODIs and T20Is.
England will begin their T20I series against Australia with the first match on September 11th in Southampton. They will then play two more T20Is on September 13th in Cardiff and on September 15th at Old Trafford. The ODI series between England and Australia is set to start on September 19th at Trent Bridge.
