Few extraordinary players burst onto the cricket scene and quickly carve out a name for themselves. Such was the case in the second Test match between West Indies and South Africa at the Providence, where Shamar Joseph’s sensational five-wicket haul demolished the South African batting lineup.

‌West Indies and South Africa squared off on a bright sunny morning at Guyana. After winning the toss, South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma chose to bat first. However, his decision backfired on a green wicket, as the West Indies pacers quickly exploited the conditions. Jayden Seales struck in the fourth over dismissing Tony de Zorzi, which marked the beginning of South Africa’s batting collapse. Shamar Joseph then took charge, leading the West Indies' bowling attack.

The local star came into the attack in the seventh over and showcased his skill with pace and variation. His first scalp was Aiden Markram who fell to a beautiful wobble-seam delivery in the 11th over. Joseph didn’t stop there and claimed Bavuma’s wicket just one delivery later. By lunch, South Africa’s middle order had been rocked by Joseph’s fiery spell, leaving them at 64/4 after 26 overs.

The 24-year-old continued his brilliant bowling performance, quickly removing David Bedingham and Keshav Maharaj. With four wickets under his belt, Joseph led the Caribbean pace attack, putting South Africa in a precarious position. The final blow came when Kyle Verreynne was undone by Joseph’s full-length delivery. With a brilliant five-wicket haul, the home crowd erupted in celebration, as Joseph achieved this feat on his debut on home soil. His sensational performance also sent waves across social media, with fans praising his dominant display.
