Men’s Hundred | Twitter reacts to seething Hales throw away wicket as Wood earns last laugh

Undesirable results often lead to moments of agitation and the same is quite often seen in the sporting culture. Alex Hales felt the same after his poor batting numbers continued at Edgbaston with the Trent Rockets squaring off against the Birmingham Phoenix in the recent Men’s Hundred encounter.

Winning the toss and choosing to field first worked well for the Birmingham Phoenix as Chris Wood and Tim Southee looked viscous with the new hard ball. The right and left-arm pace combination tortured the Trent top-order. While Hales looked to counterpunch the opposition with a couple of fours against Wood, the pacer had the last laugh by getting the better of the English opener.

Hales scored just a solitary run off the first six balls he faced before bashing a couple of fours in the fourth set. However, Wood wasn’t fooled for the third time as a back of a length delivery outside the stumps reaped rewards for the Phoenix. Hales tried to open up a bit to slash on the offered width, only to incur a thickish outside edge flying towards the bucket hands of Southee at short third man. Subsequently, Hales was vividly agitated as he whacked the air looking towards the soil before trudging off the field and sending the Twitterverse abuzz.
