In the fierce battle of sports, there’ll always be a gainer and a loser. New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips didn’t quite end up in the desired court as Chris Wood had the last laugh to extend the Kiwi’s lean patch in the recent clash of the Men’s Hundred between Birmingham Phoenix and Welsh Fire.

The decision to bat first after winning the toss didn’t pan out fruitful for the Welsh-based side after they lost numerous wickets in the initial half of the innings. With four wickets down by the twelfth set, Glenn Phillips had the job cut out to assist well-settled Tom Kohler-Cadmore. However, the New Zealand batter struggled to get go, eventually watching the bails fly in the 16th set.

Following a dot and a single in the 16th set, Phillips tried to hack across the line on a back of a length delivery banged into the deck from Wood. The over-the-wicket angle worked tremendously well for the left arm quick as the white rock beat the inside edge of the willow and speared into the top of the leg stump in no time. Seeing the poor form with the bat continue for Phillips, the all-rounder was seen devastated as he gazed up in the sky before strolling off the field in despair and turning the Twitterverse abuzz.
