LSG vs MI | Twitter shocked as umpire's hasty decision on peculiar run-out in crucial moment irks KL Rahul
Technology in itself cannot bring about a revolution but only when placed in capable hands can it fulfil its true potential. IPL 2024 so far has served as a case study of the same and the principle was further proven on Tuesday when a third umpire's run-out call went against the rational conclusion.
Amidst a slew of high-scoring games in the latest IPL season, the Ekana Stadium once again stayed true to its nature to produce a low-scoring thriller between Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants. Despite restricting the visitors to 144/7 in the first innings, Lucknow took 19.2 overs to chase down the modest target with a host of twists and turns in between. It all seemed to be smooth sailing until the 15th over when Marcus Stoinis departed for 62, and the fixture eventually threatened to turn on its head in the penultimate over courtesy of a controversial umpiring decision.
Up against Hardik Pandya, Ayush Badoni kickstarted the over by stroking the ball towards point and sprinting for a couple. However, Naman Dhir was quick on his field and a precise throw meant the batter was on the ropes but much to his fortune, Ishan Kishan missed the stumps on his first swipe with the gloves before eventually whipping off the bails on the rebound. The square leg umpire naturally sent the decision upstairs albeit Mumbai's players had already returned to their positions, having concurred the golden opportunity missed. The big screen showed that while Badoni's dive had taken him substantially far inside the crease when the poles lit up, his grip on the bat was restricted to the top of the handle which had made the blade pop up in the air. A lengthy postmortem of the footage seemed inevitable but much to everyone's shock, third umpire KN Ananthapadmanabhan ruled the batter out after only a couple of rewinds and a solitary zoom-in.
Badoni refused to believe the outcome at first and rushed straight to the on-field umpire in protest while KL Rahul mirrored the action on the sidelines by approaching the fourth official. However, the duo were left livid and helpless when their cries fell on deaf ears but Twitterati ensured the incident did not fly under the radar despite Lucknow's eventual win.

Mistakes didn't cost much
Kishan gets away with a stupid mistake, but Badoni's bat was indeed up in the air.

Kishan missed an entire auction cycle yet he found a way to run out Ayush Badoni as the bat was in the air despite that dive.
