A new law in an age old sport can stir a buzz and so did the impact player rule in the IPL. However, Royal Challengers Bengaluru seemed to have made the most out of this new rule on Thursday with Swapnil Singh outfoxing star-studded batters Heinrich Klaasen and Aiden Markram in a single over.

The decision to bat first in the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, worked well for RCB as Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar’s half-centuries set up for 206 runs total against Surisers Hyderabad. During the second innings, their spinners backed it up brilliantly with impact player Swapnil Singh weaving magic around the Proteas pair of Klaasen and Markram, packing both batters in a single over.

Following a four on the first ball of the fifth over, a low full-toss into Aiden Markram was signaled out by the on-field umpire. Although the Proteas white ball skipper reviewed the decision, the TV umpire observed that the ball was hitting the stumps with impact in line irrespective of the batter shimmying down the ground and missing the connection.

With fifteen runs coming off the next three balls, courtesy of a no-ball and two sixes, Swapnil had the last laugh against Klaasen. Known for the reputation of a menace against spinners, the South African top-edged a length delivery down the throat of Cameron Green at mid-on, leaving the impact player with a solid ‘impact’ in the match and sending the Twitterverse into a frenzy.Caught a big fish
