Cricket may not be as coach-oriented a sport as football but wisdom at crucial stages can often make all the difference. The Mumbai Indians were hoping for the same on Sunday as coaches Mark Boucher and Kieron Pollard attempted to interject but were left agitated upon being denied by the officials.

‌Chennai Super Kings rode on the brilliance of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube to post a commanding 204/6 on the board at the Wankhede before regular wickets by their bowlers kept them in front during the chase throughout. However, Rohit Sharma's rapid half-century ensured the hosts remained in the hunt and when the business end of the game arrived, the team found itself carrying a slim but definite shot at victory with 77 needed off the final six overs. However, chaos soon ensued on and off the field as the team's hopes of utilizing their strategic timeout led to a kerfuffle between he coaching team and the fourth umpire.

At the end of the 15th over, a padded-up Tim David crossed the boundary ropes along with head coach Mark Boucher and batting coach Kieron Pollard to discuss the situation with Rohit and skipper Hardik Pandya in the middle. However, the trio was under the false impression that a timeout had been signalled by the on-field pair and were stopped in their tracks by the fourth official. When theteam insisted, the fourth official sternly told them that the window for taking the time-out had elapsed and signalled them to return to their seats.

Both Bocuher and David seemed visibly irritated at the chaos but Pollrad maintained a cool head to guide the duo back to pavilion before eventually walking out three balls later when Pandya lost his wicket. Twitterati was quick to express its views on the confusion that occurred on the field in Mumbai.
