‌IPL 2024 | Twitter abuzz as Nitin Menon sparks new controversy as Gill questions Ultraedge usage

The increased usage of technology has a lot to do with the development of cricket. However, its adversities were displayed in the field when Shubman Gill and his contingent doubted the third umpire validation of 'Not Out' as Lucknow Super Giants squared off against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.

Winning the toss in their home game, Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul elected to bat first.  Gujarat speedster Umesh Yadav was quick to strike with the new ball as Quinton de Kock top-edged one behind the square of the wicket, followed by another possible chance of getting Devdutt Padikkal trapped in the same over before a controversial third umpire decision denied a wicket.

On the fifth ball of the first over, Umesh bowled a back-of-a-length delivery that skidded back into the left-hander at the middle stump line. Misjudging the in-jagger, Devdutt Padikkal played outside the line and incurred a thud onto the pad before the onfield decision of Not Out was reviewed by Gill. As the big screen popped up, the TV umpire observed a deflection from a side-on angle and hence did not opt for Ultraedge. TV umpire, Nitin Menon’s reliance on naked eyes over technology was enough to question Gill, and Tewatia, among others who surrounded on-field umpire Virender Sharma, questioning the validation and sending the Twitterverse into a buzz mode.
