As much as Ian Fleming would have us believe it takes three occurrences to form a pattern, a schoolboy error at the very pinnacle of sports is already a cardinal sin too many. Harmanpreet Kaur failed to learn from her lazy running at the WT20 to fall in the same bizarre fashion again on Thursday.

However, Danni Wyatt was quick on her marks to collect the ball and fire it back to the keeper, nipping any ideas of a single in the bud. Little could she have known her deterrent throw would end up spelling Harmanpreet's demise as the batter's willow stuck into the patch while she casually tried to return to her crease while backing up, with the replays confirming no part of her stick was past the sacred white line. Initially unperturbed by the third umpire review, Harmanpreet was visibly distraught and hung her head in shame as she prepared to walk off even as Yastika tried to console her.
In the World T20 2023 semi-final, Harmanpreet had been similarly caught off-guard by Australia when well-set on a rapid 52 and the team requiring just 40 odd from more than five overs, with her wicket triggering an Indian collapse and costing them a winning game. Twitterati was thus unsurprisingly quick to criticize the Women in Blue skipper for her callous attitude at the crease.
