Delighted to welcome Cameron Bancroft back for 2020 season, says Marcus North
The director of Durham's cricket club has revealed that the Australian opener Cameron Bancroft will return to the club for a new season after an impressive start with them in the recently concluded English season. Bancroft will be available to play all three formats for Durham in 2020.
Australia opener Cameron Bancroft is set to return to Durham for the 2020 county season after having a remarkable start with the club in his first season with them. Bancroft was replaced by Marcus Harris in the last three tests of the recently concluded Ashes 2019 afer he featured in the first two games.
Ahead of getting selected for the England tour, the wicketkeeper-batsman captained Durham in both the County Championship and the One-Day Cup, making a case for himself in the Australian selection. He scored 726 runs at an average of more than 45 in the County Championship and amassed 377 more at 94.25 in the one-day competition.
Durham's director of cricket Marcus North heaped praise on the cricketer saying that he is looking forward to having Bancroft back for the 2020 season. “We are delighted to welcome Cameron back to Emirates Riverside for our 2020 season," North told AFP.
“He has had a huge impact on the field with his leadership and undoubted quality through his performances.
“Cameron has also had an impact off the field as an ambassador for the club with a number of community projects,” he added.
The 26-year-old had earlier suffered a major blow to his young career after he was punished with a nine-month ban due to his involvement in the ball-tampering scandal, referred to as the 'Sandpaper Gate', in South Africa.Â
