Ashok Malhotra set to be elected ICA president uncontested
As per the nomination list published on Saturday, Ashok Malhotra has emerged as the only candidate contesting for the post of president of the Indian Cricketers Association. However, there are three candidates for the secretary post in the form of Ashu Dani, Hitesh Majumdar and Siddhesh Sahib Singh.
For the Indian Cricketers Association election, which will form the players association and a member to the Apex Council, former India batsman Ashok Malhotra is the lone candidate standing and will assume the office without any opposition. A member of the Indian team that won the World Championship of Cricket in Australia in 1985, Malhotra was touted as a great talent but never really did justice to his talent. He went on to become a Test selector and a coach of the Bengal cricket team on the domestic circuit and is now set to become the ICA president.
As per a Cricbuzz report, The post of secretary is going to see some fine competition as three candidates in the form of Ashu Dani, Hitesh Majumdar and Siddhesh Sahib Singh have sent their nomination to contest for the post. For the position of treasurer, Kishore Kumar Sharma and V Krishnaswamy will battle it out while Rajesh Nayyar and Yajurvindra Singh are the only two members to have given their nomination to be ICA Member Representative. If their nomination goes ahead and is cleared by the electoral officer, they will take the position uncontested.
Anshuman Gaekwad, Dodda Ganesh, Kirti Azad and Rakesh Dhurve have filed their nomination for the position of male ICA representative to BCCI's Apex Council while for the female representative, the contest will be between Amrita Shinde, CTM Suguna, Mama Dabhi and Shanta Rangaswamy. ICA Representative Nominee to the IPL Governing Council might see Surinder Khanna being uncontested as there is no opposition to his candidature.
However, things are not as straightforward as it seems. Only 22 associations have ICA representative nominees for their respective state chapters of which Delhi Cricket Association, Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association, Haryana Cricket Association, Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association and Rajasthan Cricket Association didn't receive any interest from the male players. Mumbai Cricket Association, Jharkhand Cricket Association, Odisha Cricket Association, and Punjab Cricket Association haven't received any application from female players to be a part of the ICA's state chapter.
