Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed has said that the team will take a leaf out of their run in the 2017 Champions Trophy, where they made an emphatic comeback to lift the trophy. Pakistan play their opening game against West Indies and have had a torrid run in ODIs in recent times, losing last 10 games.

Pakistan are coming fresh from a drubbing at the hands of England in the backyard and are certainly low on confidence. Before the England series, they were whitewashed by Australia in a five-match series and would be looking for something to boost the team up in their World Cup opener against West Indies.

Skipper Sarfraz Ahmed has said that they are in a similar position in 2017 Champions Trophy and would take inspiration from their success in that tournament. After losing to India in the opening game, Pakistan returned to beat South Africa, Sri Lanka and England to chisel their path to the final and got the better of their arch-rivals to lift the trophy.

“We will seek inspiration from our Champions Trophy win because then also we were losing and then lifted ourselves at the right time to win the trophy,” said Sarfaraz, reported AFP.

Pakistan have been in England for a while and must have got used to the conditions well. “The boys are motivated and are eager to put these losses behind them and by playing in England for a month we are well prepared and you will hopefully see us doing well,”

Mohammed Amir played a key role in Pakistan’s success in the 2017 Champions Trophy and Sarfraz is certain that Amir will get the early breakthroughs and push the opponent on the back foot. “We know Amir is an impact bowler and he knows his responsibilities and I am sure he will lift his bowling and get us early wickets,” said Sarfaraz.
