VIDEO | Leg-umpire takes MS Dhoni suggestion for Kuldeep Yadav appeal despite referring to third umpire
Cricket will be poorer when MS Dhoni will decide to call it a day and with that, a big part of the game will lose its essence. Dhoni gave a sneak-peak of it in Ranchi as the leg-umpire came up to him for the stumping suggestion even though the official had referred the decision to the third umpire.
His bat might not have clicked yesterday to take India down the line in what was possibly the last international match in the county for the former Indian skipper, but it was a Dhoni day after all. Playing in his home city, who saw the making of "Mahi" before he set off for the grander and bigger things in life, Dhoni was at his peculiar best behind the stumps and brought up some usual antics to ensure that fans had taken something with them from the game.
After Maxwell tried to hit out the spinners from the get-go, Kuldeep Yadav decided to outfox him by his googlies and one such delivery in the 42nd over foxed the Aussie by the flight. Kuldeep kept the ball full and in order to hit him with the turn, Maxwell stretched his legs, understanding going down the track with MS Dhoni standing up close meant nothing but a serious blunder.
His slog over long-on, however, didn’t connect at all as Dhoni tried to whip off the bails in no time. India had a mild appeal for it, but from his body language, Dhoni didn’t seem confident that Maxwell was out. Joel Wilson, who was standing at the leg, instantly went for the third umpire decision, but he came towards the Indian wicket-keeper to know what he thought of it. When Dhoni shook his head in disapproval implying that he didn’t think the Victorian was out, the umpire seemed very convinced of it and went back to his position.
Kuldeep, too, didn’t bother after that and moved back to his position to bowl the last delivery of the over despite the third umpire was still checking the replays. Kumar Dharmasena found out that the bails were dislodged when Maxwell’s foot was inside it and couldn’t have been given out.
