Bangladesh Premier League | Eoin Morgan signs up for Dhaka Dynamites, Rajshahi Kings rope in JP Duminy
England's World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan has signed up to play for Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) franchise Dhaka Dynamites for the upcoming season. JP Duminy, who retired from International Cricket post the World Cup, will also participate in the league, having signed up for Rajshahi Kings.
After Khulna Titans signing up Shane Watson last week, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) has added more firepower and entertainment to its brand as Eoin Morgan and JP Duminy have signed up to play for Dhaka Dynamites and Rajshahi Kings respectively. It was also announced earlier this week that Morgan would be representing the Dublin Chiefs in the inaugural edition of the Euro T20 Slam.
Morgan, who has previously played in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Pakistan Super League (PSL) and Big Bash League (BPL), will be playing in the BPL for the first time and is also expected to be available for the entirety of the season.Â
“We have signed Morgan for the upcoming edition of BPL considering his vast experience in shorter format cricket. We are expecting him to be available for the whole season,” Dynamites chief executive Obaid Nizam told Cricbuzz on Sunday.
However, it remains to be seen whether he'll lead the side, as the Dynamites are currently lead by Shakib Al Hasan, who was a revelation in the recently concluded Cricket World Cup.Â
“We have to think about it (captaincy) because you know we have Shakib with us and he is leading the side for quite some time,” Nizam added.
Like Morgan, former South African International Duminy, who recently announced his retirement from international cricket, will be making his debut in the BPL, having been roped in by Rajshahi Kings. The 35-year-old has been a constant presence in T20 leagues around the world and will be looking to ply his trade in T20 cricket all over the world, having hung his boots in international cricket.Â
“Rajshahi Kings are proud to announce that South African all-rounder JP Duminy is a King now,” the franchise announced his signing on its official facebook page.
“Duminy: an elegant left handed batsman, a useful spinner and a sharp fielder, has served South Africa for more than 14 years. He has a vast experience in franchise cricket and already led PSL team Islamabad United to their second title in 2018,” the post further read.Â
The seventh season of the BPL will commence from December 6th.
