Despite struggling of late to cement his place in the national team, there is no denying that Glenn Maxwell is counted amongst the most innovative cricketers in the world. It was evident when the all-rounder imitated signature shots of MS Dhoni, AB de Villers, Kevin Pietersen among others.

The fondest memories of India’s gully cricketers would surely be spending time imitating the shots of their idol back in their childhood at the lanes behind their homes. And it turns out to be a habit difficult to shake off even when one has become an international star. Australia’s Maxwell, in a new video, was seen impersonating the classic shots of Ricky Ponting, Mark Waugh, Pietersen and many more.

Admitting that he decided to make a second part after the success of his first impersonation video where he had mimicked Steve Smith, Sanath Jayasuriya, and Tillakaratne Dilshan, Maxwell started off with Ricky Ponting this time. And he aped the former Australian skipper’s pull shot to perfection that consists of a small duck before going up and whacking the ball.

His other shots included Mark Waugh’s extravagantly effortless flick to Marcus Stoinis’ short defense before shouting for a no run. However, the highlight of the video was definitely the shots of Dhoni and Pietersen. Fondly remembering the match against Indian where he had dropped Dhoni’s catch before the World Cup winner slogged one for a 115m long huge six with his trademark helicopter shot, Maxwell was inch perfect with his positioning of leg and the bat that scooped the Yorker.

The best imitation was, however, of Pietersen. The former English international was one of the most celebrated players of the game and Maxwell proved that he had observed every details of his movement. From what he would say in the helmet mic, to his extra bent waist, to his flat nod of the bat, to the strange knee jerk, and eventually the famous switch it – Maxwell looked like a man who had decoded Pietersen completely.
