After India declared on their overnight score of 297 for five, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, and Kuldeep Yadav picked up three wickets each to restrict West Indies to 181. India reached 84 for one in their second innings, with Ajinkya Rahane (20) and Hanuma Vihari (48) at the crease at stumps.

As India came out to bat for the second time in the practice game, it was evident that the visitors had a particular agenda on their mind: give as much time as possible to the ones out of form. And so, Agarwal joined stand-in skipper Rahane in facing the new ball. Both batsmen set out with their task patiently as Rahane’s 20 coming off 95 balls. However, his partner couldn’t last as long, succumbing to Romario Shepherd for 13 in the 12th over.

Hanuma Vihari walked in at No.3 and picked up right where he left things off in the first inning. He added an unbeaten 62-run stand with the skipper, doing the bulk of the scoring. Vihari made 48 not out, with six fours and one six during his stay at the middle.

Earlier in the day, India declared at their overnight score, after rain delayed the start of play on the second day of the three-day practice match. Things eventually got underway with Ishant and the returning Jasprit Bumrah sharing the new ball. Ishant took care of the top order, removing opener Jeremy Solozano and Brandon King early on, before returning after lunch to dismiss Windies top-scorer Kavem Hodge for 51.

Umesh and Kuldeep did their work on the rest of the batsmen, as the hosts’ were bundled out in 56.1 overs. Umesh’s particularly tight spell of bowling was cause for optimism, but star-man Bumrah’s lacklustre spell (11-0-45-0) may raise an eyebrow or two. On the final day, India will hope their skipper Rahane can get at least a half-century, if not breach the triple-digit mark.
