Amidst the rising tensions between India and Pakistan, India’s Davis Cup coach Zeeshan Ali has revealed that while the players were initially concerned regarding security issues, they are now assured of them after clearance. India would visit Pakistan to play Davis Cup after a span of 55 years.

India’s tie against Pakistan in the Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Group-1 tie has been scheduled to be held in Islamabad on September 14 and 15. However, the cross-border tensions have also increased over the last few days making their visit an uncertainty.

However, India have gone on to name their five-member squad for the Davis Cup tie against Pakistan hinting that for now, they have no inhibitions of travelling to their neighbours. And when coach Ali was asked if there were any fresh apprehensions about it, he didn’t acknowledge any.

“With India and Pakistan, something keeps happening daily. There are still five weeks to go for the tie. The players were a bit concerned a few days back. But once those issues were cleared it has been fine. I am very happy that we have been able to choose a full-strength team,” said Ali, reported Sportstar.

The last time India travelled to Pakistan for Davis Cup was back in March 1964 that Indian had won 4-0. The most recent tie between the two controversial neighbours, however, took place back in 2006 Mumbai, which also saw India win 3-2.
