Dale Steyn announces retirement from Test cricket

As per recent reports, South African pacer Dale Steyn has announced his decision to hang up his boots from Test cricket with immediate effect. The veteran quick represented South Africa in 93 Test matches since making his debut back in 2004 and has picked up 439 in the longest format.

At his peak, Dale Steyn was one of the most feared pacers in the contemporary era. In the league of Makhaya Ntini and Shaun Pollock, Steyn is regarded as one of the greatest fast bowlers to have emerged from the cricketing nation of South Africa. 

As per recent reports in Cricbuzz, the 36-year-old bowler has now decided to retire from Test cricket after facing trouble with recurring injuries in the last two years. The much-celebrated fast-bowler has represented the national team in 93 Test matches and has amassed a total of 439 wickets in the longer format of the game. 

Steyn's career reached its zenith in 2008 when he went on to have majestic run and bagged an unbelievable 86 wickets in 14 games. That form also earned him the prestigious ICC Player of the year award in that year. He also became the fastest Proteas pacer to take 100 Test wickets and ended up with 249 wickets at the end of his 48th Test.

However, since 2013 Steyn has suffered various injuries which included with a fractured rib, a side-strain, and multiple hamstring strains. Those recurring injury woes have eventually led to this day that he had his career shortened to 93 matches. But in less that 100 Test matches played, he ends up as the 8th highest wicket taker in Test Cricket history and amongst seamers he finishes fourth.
