Heena Sidhu clinched the gold medal in the women's 10m air pistol at the International Shooting Competitions of Hannover (ISCH) ahead of the next week's ISSF Munich World Cup. On the other hand, Sidhu’s compatriot P Shri Nivetha has settled for a bronze medal after tough competition in the final.

It took almost eight years for Sidhu to win an individual gold medal at the Commonwealth Games as she finished as the champions in the 25 m event at the Gold Coast Games last month. Despite losing to compatriot Manu Bhaker in the 10m Air Pistol event, the 28-year-old girl came back strongly to win gold in the 25m Pistol event and now, she has followed that up with a gold medal in at the International Shooting Competitions of Hannover (ISCH) ahead of the next week's ISSF Munich World Cup.

Throughout the tournament, Sidhu was in splendid form and continued the same dominance in the final as well. After starting with a series of 9s, Sidhu switched gears and notched up 10 and above consistently to break away from the field. She managed to produce consistent 10s in her second series and even hit a perfect 10.9 in the elimination round to put herself in contention for the gold medal. The Indian fought for the 3rd-4th position before scoring a 10.9 on her 13th shot in the final to take the lead and eventually held her nerve till the end to emerge victorious.

While France's Mathilde Lamolle won the silver medal, another Indian P Shri Nivetha secured the bronze to establish India’s dominance in the tournament.

"I am feeling good with how my training is shaping up. Of course, it's not perfect but we are moving in the right direction so it's just a matter of time," Sidhu told PTI after her gold medal win.

The upcoming ISSF World Cup will be played in Munich from May 22 to 29 and that is going to be Sidhu's first major competition after the Commonwealth Games and the Korea World Cup.
