India commence the Nidahas Trophy against hosts Sri Lanka, who will have a massive point to prove in front of the home crowd after India’s whitewash on the last tour. India, on the other hand, are taking a risk playing a second string side who will be motivated to cement a place in the first team.

Preview

A Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni-less Indian side has got everyone talking ahead of the tri-series with some still thinking them as the favourites, while some differ. However, it would nonetheless remain a crucial assignment for deputy skipper Rohit Sharma, who has a blend of youth and experience in his hands to churn out a historic win. Sri Lanka have come back to winning ways of late this year and would want to continue that momentum under a new coach, as the side continues to remain in transition.

Who Said What

"If you go by the ratings, India is the No. 1 [No.3] team, so they always start ahead of the other teams. Whoever comes from India is a very strong team. We have to start well because we haven't been doing well at home. With Bangladesh - because of the last series - we probably have a little edge over them mentally. But still, India is the No. 1 [No.3] team."-  Chandika Hathurusingha, Sri Lanka head coach

“It's always important to know your bench strength. We’re lucky that we have got quality players who are waiting to do well. They have been consistently performing in A tours, Ranji Trophy, IPL cricket. It's the right time to blood them." - Rohit Sharma,  India captain.
