VIDEO | Injured Darren Sammy pulls off a perfect MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni has become a household name due to his style of “finishing things off in style” - cue the 2011 World Cup final. Yesterday, in the PSL, an injured Darren Sammy pulled off a Dhoni-esque helicopter shot in the penultimate over before adding 10 in the final one to lead his team to victory.
In a match between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators, the latter, riding on Shane Watson’s 47 runs, had put up a score of 141/8 in their 20 overs for Peshawar to chase. The chasing team appeared to be in complete control with the scoreboard reading 107/2 at the end of the 16th over. However, with the next 17 balls yielding just 17 runs, the equation had come down to 16 needed off nine balls.
With three more wickets back in the pavilion, Darren Sammy, who had injured himself while bowling and had failed to complete his overs, had a big decision to make. And he decided to come out and give it a shot. As he hobbled onto the crease no one could have predicted what was to follow.
On the last ball of the 19th over, Rahat Ali bowled a full delivery on the pads of the former Windies captain. However, the latter was ready and using his strong bottom hand, managed to execute a helicopter shot that would have made Dhoni proud.

Anwar Ali was handed the ball to deliver the final over of the match and the Khalid Usman could only manage a single and as Sammy struggled to get across to the other side, he knew it was his game to lose. Ali, knowing that Sammy would not be able to move freely, then tried a short ball. However, to his surprise, managed to clear the deep square leg boundary to make the result a formality. He ended the game with a powerful shot down the ground and just stood there to celebrate as Usman ran the length of the pitch to celebrate with his captain.
