Rohit Sharma needs one good innings to solve his form issues, says Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan believes his opening partner Rohit Sharma requires just one good innings to solve all the form issues that he has been facing for over a month, which will help in silencing his critics. Coming from a forgettable Test series, Sharma has managed just 35 runs in two ODIs.

India have taken an early 2-0 lead in the six-match ODI series against South Africa with their spin bowling duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal absolutely tormenting the Proteas. The wrist spinners have managed to pick up 13 wickets of in the series so far keeping South Africa well out of the competition. Their performance has been further boosted by Dhawan, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane's strong batting performance.

Everything has clicked for Team India so far, except for Rohit Sharma’s form. The Indian opener was dropped from the third Test as he managed just 78 runs in the first two and has continued his poor form in the first two ODIs since then. However, opening partner and teammate Dhawan doesn't consider it to be much of a problem as he believes that Rohit is timing the ball well and is just one good knock away to get back his mojo.

"I feel Rohit is playing well, looking at the way he is timing the ball. Even in the last match, he was playing really good. Unfortunately, he got out but, I don't feel concerned about his batting at all. He has performed so well right from the Champions Trophy, till now. Sometimes it does happen that you don't score runs. But what matters the most is how he is timing the ball. There is no problem at all with his form. I think he just needs one good inning, to solve all problems," said Dhawan as quoted by CricketNext.

South Africa are out of ideas to deal with India's wrist spinners. Ahead of the 3rd ODI, the management had even organized an optional net session to practice wrist spinners specifically. Dhawan also believes that the wrist spinners' ability to turn the ball on any track has really troubled foreign batsmen because of their lack of habit.

"It is difficult to play wrist-spinners because they have the ability to turn the ball on flat tracks as well. And when the ball starts to turn, foreign player find it really difficult, because they are not used to playing such kind of turn. That can create a doubt in batsman's mind. That is why they are really effective,” Dhawan said.

The southpaw also shed light on the great balance that India's batting order possesses, which is a big reason why they have not lost a single ODI series in over a year.

"We are a really balanced side. The good part is we have youth, as well as experience in the side. The youngsters are also showing a lot of maturity. So that is our biggest strength. And in our ranks, we have an all-rounder as well, which really helps us. That gives a lot of flexibility to the squad. So we can time the introduction of our spinners according to the situation of the match," he concluded.
