Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah rise in ODI Player Rankings
Indian opener Rohit Sharma has gained three slots to reach 10th position in the rankings for batsmen, while speedster Jasprit Bumrah rose 19 places to the 24th spot among the bowlers. Sharma was the second highest run-scorer in the Champions Trophy with 304 runs whilst guiding India to the final.
Sharma’s contributions at the top of the order were integral to taking India to the final of the recently concluded tournament as he, along with Shikhar Dhawan, got India off to flyers in most of the games. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the other Indian who rose four places to joint-19th.
Pakistan, who won their maiden Champions Trophy title on Sunday, have seen their players make a considerable rise in the rankings. Hassan Ali was given the golden ball for finishing the tournament with 13 wickets and has gained 12 positions to reach the seventh rank among the bowlers, while Mohammad Amir who picked up 3/16 in the final against India has gained 16 slots to reach the 21st place. Amir's bowling partner Junaid Khan has moved up nine places to the 47th position.
Fakhar Zaman, the revelation for Pakistan in the tournament, saw his brilliant 114 against India in the final take him into the top 100 as he gained 58 positions to reach the 97th rank.
Meanwhile, Zaman’s compatriot, Babar Azam has reached a career-best fifth position after gaining three positions with scores of 46 in the final and 38 not out in the semifinal. Among the bowlers for Pakistan, Mohammad Hafeez gained two slots to reach 20th rank while opener Azhar Ali has moved up 11 slots to 31st position.
Finally, Bangladesh had a commendable tournament as they reached the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy and their efforts have seen skipper Mashrafe Mortaza gain three slots to reach 15th position among bowlers while opener Tamim Iqbal has moved to 16th position among batsmen. Iqbal finished the Champions Trophy with an impressive 293 runs from 4 matches.
The other losing semifinalist, England, saw its top four batsmen on the list - Joe Root (fourth), Alex Hales (17th), Eoin Morgan (18th) and Jos Buttler (19th) retain their rankings.
