BCCI planning to appoint a coach without an interview process
In a new twist in the hunt for Team India's coach selection, the Indian cricket board (BCCI) is considering doing away from the interview process. In doing so, they hope to avoid a war of words situation such as the one that occurred last year between Sourav Ganguly and Ravi Shastri.
BCCI want to avoid a repetition of last year incident where CAC member Sourav Ganguly and former team director Ravi Shastri had a war of words that was played out in the media.
As reported by TOI, according to sources, CAC members, which include Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Ganguly will take the final decision on how to appoint the new coach. Anil Kumble resigned from the post of the Indian head coach citing his ‘untenable’ relationship with the Indian captain Virat Kohli. The source said that the BCCI had internally discussed the possibility of dropping the interview process.
The last date to apply for the most respected job in the Indian cricket is July 9 (till midnight). The applicants who already applied for the position are ready with their presentations but still don’t know how the process will work, even as Ganguly was reported as saying that the selection process will be conducted on July 10 in Mumbai.
Sources said that the strongest argument behind the move of doing away with the interview is that the CAC members already know about the achievements and qualities of the applicants, especially Virender Sehwag, Ravi Shastri, and Tom Moody, who applied for the post along with Lalchand Rajput, Richard Pybus and Dodda Ganesh. Therefore, calling them separately after studying their vision documents wasn't needed. "The board members are keen that the Ganguly-Shastri spat shouldn't be repeated. The final call will be taken very soon," a top unnamed board functionary said.
