IPL announce final list of 351 players ahead of auction
The Indian Premier League have announced the final roster of 351 players who will go under the hammer on February 20 for the 2017 edition. The final number has been reached after trimming the original 799 players who had registered their names for the 10th edition of the league.
This season will see 122 internationally capped players go under the hammer to participate in the biggest T20 event on the planet. The list also includes six players from Associate nations - 5 from Afghanistan and 1 from UAE.
Ishant Sharma is the only Indian in the top bracket of the Indian Premier League auction, along with three England cricketers (Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes, and Eoin Morgan), two Australians (Mitchell Johnson and Pat Cummins)and one Sri Lankan (Angelo Mathews). These players have been given a base price of ₹ 2 crores.
The second bracket has been set for ₹ 1.5 crores and is completely dominated by foreign players. Jonny Bairstow, Kyle Abbott, Jason Holder, Trent Boult, Brad Haddin, and Nathan Lyon complete a list that is dominated by the bowlers.
Afghanistan players Asghar Stanikzai, Mohammad Nabi, Mohammad Shahzad, Rashid Khan, and Dawlat Zadran have been given a place in the auction while Chirag Suri is the only UAE player to make the cut.
India spinner Pawan Negi, who was purchased for a massive ₹ 8.5 crore by Delhi Daredevils last year, comes into this year's auction at a base price of ₹ 30 lakh. Since this is the 10th and last edition before franchises overhaul their squads, team owners would be hesitant to spend a lot on players this year.
