BCCI bans Pakistan umpire Asad Rauf for five years
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday banned Pakistan umpire Asad Rauf for a period of five years for misconduct and violation of the board’s Anti-Corruption Code. The 59-year old was alleged to have been involved in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2013 spot-fixing and betting scandal.
Asad Rauf did not appear before the BCCI’s disciplinary committee but opted to send his preliminary submissions on January 15, 2016, and written statement on February 8, 2016, as per a media release from the board.
“The Committee after considering the report of the Commissioner of Enquiry and the written statement of Mr Asad Rauf has arrived at the conclusion that Mr. Asad Rauf is guilty of misconduct and corruption within the meaning of Article 2.2.2, 2.3.2, 2.3.3 and 2.4.1 of the BCCI Anti-Corruption Code,” said the BCCI’s media release.

Rauf was dropped from the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) and Pakistan’s list of umpires after Mumbai police raised allegations against him. The umpire had denied all allegations back in 2013 by claiming it as a conspiracy against him.Â
