South African skipper AB de Villiers sent out a strong message to India with a century against Board President's XI in the warm-up game that ended in a draw in Mumbai on Saturday. The 31-year-old scored 112 runs as South Africa were bowled out for 302 in their 1st innings in reply to India's 296 and 92/0 in the two-day match.

The Proteas were struggling at 57/5 at one point, but AB de Villiers, who was the top scorer in the recently concluded ODI series, came to their rescue once again and managed to take them to a total of 302.

De Villiers formed two crucial partnerships at the end, first with Dane Villas (54) and then with Dale Steyn (37).

Among the Indian bowlers, 24-year-old Shardul Thakur finished with an impressive figure of 4/70 in his 16 overs, while Jayant Yadav and Kuldeep Yadav chipped in with two wickets each.

Put in to bat for a second innings after dismissing the visitors, India promoted Cheteshwar Pujara up the order to open with Rahul and the duo remained unbeaten at 49 and 43 respectively, as the match ended in a draw.

Earlier on Friday, South Africa had managed to dismiss India for 296 in the first innings as KL Rahul and Namaj Ojha scored half centuries.

The first test between India and South Africa will start on 5 November at Mohali as the men in blues will look to bounce back from the ODI series defeat.
