Skeet Mixed Team Bronze Match | India 43-44 China

India fall agonizingly short of a fourth shooting bronze at Olympics 2024.

The Chinese walked in as the favourites but gave the Indians chances, as Jiang missed three shots in one series itself. However, Lyu sensationally delivered a perfect match while the Indians faltered regularly early on and thus even three perfect sets of eight in the end did not prove enough to claim the bronze.

Both the Indians were right on course until their final 10 shots. Vijayveer had shot a 100 and 98 to begin stage two. Anish was only slightly off with 99 and 97. But a 92 in the final round for the former and a 93 for Anish means they end up NINTH and THIRTEENTH respectively.

25m Rapid Pistol Men's Qualification - Stage 2

The first relay in stage two is done.

Czechia's Matej Rampula scored the highest with 293, and now leads the field temporarily with a total of 581. That would nowhere near be enough though to make it into the top eight.

25m Rapid Pistol Men's Qualification

The last event of a busy week of shooting is finally here. Vijayveer Sidhu and Anish are the two Indian hopes competing in the 25m Pistol with ambitions of adding a third medal from the discipline to India's tally.

Unlike the women's event, there is no precision phase in this format: just two rapid phases of 30 shots each. Shooters get eight seconds for each of the first ten shots, six for the next ten, and four for the final ten. And then rinse and repeat for the next stage of 30 shots.

The other difference is that there are four sets of shooters instead of just two but that is just a logistical detail. Vijayveer has been placed in the first relay and Anish in the third.

25m Pistol Women's Final

Major heartbreak for Manu. She was right in the mix, the Bronze was all but hers to claim. The Indian looked devastated after being cruelly eliminated in the shootoff.

There would be no second doubts in the youngster's mind though about the scale of what she has achieved. The performance today is nothing to be ashamed about. Manu kept pace brilliantly with the leaders and even with the Olympic record of 38 till her shoot off. Had she made it through the one-on-one, the gold was not too ambitious a dream.

India's medal tally continues to read three, as it will for the rest of the day given this was the only medal event for the tri-colour nation tonight.

25m Pistol Women's Final

The biggest of days for India in shooting. Manu Bhaker stands on the brink of history the likes of which no Indian has ever done lose to.

The 22-year-old has already done the unprecedented by becoming the first multiple-medal winner in the country's independent history. She could now add a third bronze to her collection.

It gives me goosebumps to even think about it. Just imagine the pressure then that the youngster must be feeling. She has already proven though she more than has the minerals to cope with it. Can she complete the elusive hattrick?

25m Pistol Women's Qualification

Esha begins on the front foot with a solid score of 97.

The 19-year-old was on-course for major gains in the standings with just one nine across her first eight shots in the first series of rapid shots. Two nines to end halted her momentum a bit but the Indian still harbours a strong outside chance of finishing in the top eight.

A 96 in the second series. Decent but probably not enough.

Esha started off with a nine, missed the mark on the fourth, and then hit sonsecutive nines with her sixth and seventh shots to aggregate 97 in the second series. The prodigy needs no less than a 100 in the final series if she is to stay in the fight for a finals spots.

97 to finish for Esha, all hopes rest on Manu now.

Esha's fourth went haywire again, this time worth only an eight, before the sixth shot went for a 9. The Indian's final tally comes to 581-17x, placing her seventh after the first set. Only a miracle here can help her retain a top eight spot once the next set of shooters are done with their quota.

The sets remain the same too -- Esha in the first and Manu in the second.

Another decent round keeps Esha hot on the heels of the round eight.

An eight with her third shot has seen the Indian slip down the 14th but if she manages a near-flawless series to cap of the precision phase, it shall keep her afloat at the midway mark of the event.

25m Pistol Women's Qualification

The format for precision is simple: 30 shots across three series of 10, with five minutes for each series to complete your quota. The rings are divided into 10 rings, each worth incrementally with a maximum of 10. If the shooters hit the inner circle in the ring, it is counted as an x and is used as a tiebreaker if the scores are equal.

The current precision round will take place in two sets. Esha is in the first and Manu in the second.

02 Aug, 12:52

25m Pistol Women's Qualification

Guess who's back, back again? Manu Bhaker's back, gunning for a third medal in the Olympic Games. She is in action right now in the precision phase of the 25m Pistol's event, followed by the  rapid phase at 3:30 PM IST. The top eight scorers across both phases will proceed to the final.

Manu isn't the only one though, with 19-year-old Esha Singh also making her Olympic debut in the same event. She is something of a prodigy, being the youngest ever 10m pistol national champion, and will be itching to prove herself on the big stage.
