In the second game of the Japan Open quarter-final, against Viktor Axelsen, Kidambi Srikanth's shot hit the tape and fortunately for him the shuttle fell in the Dane's court. Srikanth acknowledged his lucky break and the two players showed great sportsmanship by high-fiving at the end of the point.

Srikanth bowed out of the ongoing Japan Open Superseries after losing 17-21, 17-21 to Axelsen in the quarterfinal. The duo resorted to an attacking style of play as they went neck to neck for most parts of the match. However, more than their style of play, both players produced a great moment of sportsmanship that signified the respect shown in the sport of badminton.

After losing the first game, the Indian had to win the second game at any cost to force a decider. But Axelsen showcased a wide variety of shots as he forced the three-time Supeseries champion to move across the court. The Danish star's strategy of playing at the net before unleashing his fabled cross-court smash helped him lead the second game 18-15.

During the rally, one of Srikanth’s shots failed hit the tape and it looked as if the shuttle would land in his half. But luckily for Srikanth, the shuttle went across the net and fell in the World No. 3’s half and the change in the direction of the shuttle meant that Axelsen failed to readjust in time to get in a return. While many would have to chosen to celebrate the point, Srikanth immediately acknowledged Axelsen’s bad luck and offered a hand of apology. However, the Dane went a step further and high-fived his opponent as the game resumed again.

The duo, who are now slowly and steadily emerging as the new superstars in world badminton, gave a moment of primal joy to their fans with their acts of sportsmanship and despite, Srikanth losing the match to bring curtains to the Indian singles challenge at the Japan Open, the moment will surely be remembered for a while.
