Singapore Open | Marin gets her revenge on Sindhu

Carolina Marin and PV Sindhu were once again pitted against each other in the QFs of the Singapore Open Superseries. However, the result was different from the last time the two met with Marin emerging victorious 21-11, 21-15. Srikanth entered SFs in Men's Singles to keep India's hopes alive.

PV Sindhu once again had a chance to beat the 2016 Olympics gold medalist Carolina Marin in the quarterfinals of the Singapore Open Superseries. The Spaniard looked in great touch and took the game to Sindhu at the very beginning. Marin started with a lead of 2-0 and Sindhu's unforced errors helped her to convert the lead to 11-4. The 2016 Olympic silver medalist was unable to keep up with Marin and eventually lost the game 21-11.  

The second game started on the same page with Marin quickly taking a 3-0 lead. The Spaniard looked in great control and took an 11-5 lead at the break. PV Sindhu fought back in the second half of the game but could only marginally reduce the lead, 14-19. Marin was too good for Sindhu today as she defeated the Indian Open winner in the second game with a scoreline of 21-15.

Sai Praneeth defeated Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand in a close match to enter the semi-finals of the Singapore Open. He won the match by a score of 15-21, 21-14, and 21-19. Praneeth faces Don Kung Lee of South Korea in the semi-finals. 

Srikanth Kidambi faced Yuqi Shi of China in his Men's Singles quarterfinal match. The Indian shuttler started strongly winning the first game 21-14. The Chinese got off to a good start in the second, taking the lead to 6-2. However, Kidambi, the former World Number 4, bounced back and levelled with the Chinese at the half-way point in the second set. Post the interval, the players exchanged points back on forth till the 16th point. After that, Kidambi took charge and finished the game 21-16 to enter the semifinals.

India's representation in the Mixed Doubles of the tournament ended today with the team of Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponappa suffering defeat at the hands of Kai Lu and Yaqiong Huang of China. The Chinese won the match with a convincing scoreline of 21-11, 21-8.
