Amidst the vile criticism that the Haryana government is getting from athletes, state sports minister Anil Vij has stated that they cannot satisfy the state athletes by breaking the state department rules. Wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, and Yogeshwar Dutt have all criticized the government.

With all the state athletes resenting the government’s new cash policy of slashing half of the prize money for the second highest honor of the year, Anil Vij has stated that the state government cannot break the rules to meet the demands of the athletes.

"We do not pacify any players who are unsatisfied with the prize money. We cannot give money after going out of the rules of the sports department," Vij said, reported TOI.

The athletes wasted no time in going public denigrating the government’s move to reduce half of the prize money from the second largest award of the year. While Punia pointed out this hindered the progress of an athlete and threatened to return his prize money, Phogat has accused the ministry of insulting the athletes. However, and Vij was quick to answer them all.

"They are doing wrong and we have not deducted any money from their prizes and these people are well aware of this fact. We have followed the rules which have been followed since last 20-25 years and accordingly the prize money has been deducted of those players who won more than one medals in a single year. For a single year, the largest award won by the players is given in full amount, for the second largest award 50% is given and followed subsequently."

"This year Commonwealth and Asian Games had come together in the single year and Yogeshwar Dutt had won gold in Commonwealth for which he deserves Rs 1.5 crore as per our sports policy and he also won gold in Asian Games for which he deserves Rs 3 crore, therefore, we have to deduct Rs 75 lakh of the Commonwealth Games. We have deducted the same and it is according to the rules which have been followed since long time," he further added.
