Asian Games 2018 | Hima Das bags 400m silver with a national record time
India’s new athletic sensation Hima Das has clinched the silver medal after completing the 400m track in a record-breaking time of 50.79 seconds in the finals at the Asian Games in Indonesia. Hima has become the first Indian female athlete to break the sub-51-second barrier in the process.
Hima, who had caught the attention of the Indian public with her stunning display in the World Under-20 championships at Tampere in July, lived up to the nation’s expectations as she bagged another medal while setting the national record.
However, after a decent start to the race, Hima could not overcome Salwa Naser throughout the race as the Qatari athlete bagged gold with a timing of 50.09 seconds while her (Hima’s) compatriot Nirmala Sheoran finished fourth in 52.96 seconds.
On the other hand, Kazakhstani sprinter Mikhina Elina bagged bronze with a timing of 52.63 seconds, finishing just before Sheoran.
