VIDEO | Zharnel Hughes stripped off his Gold medal after taking a lap of honour
One of the greatest tragedies of life is when your chest-thumping pride is replaced with a walk of shame with the entire world watching. Zharnel Hughes learnt that the hard way as, after the review confirmed that he intentionally tried to block Jereem Richards, he was stripped of the gold medal.
The Gold Coast Commonwealth Games has attracted a lot of attention among the sports lovers all around the world, but truth
In the Men's 200m final, Hughes was going well in his pursuit of finishing first, but he was getting some tough competition from Trinidad and Tobago’s Jereem Richards, who was making a late surge at the finish line. Just before the finish line, when it seemed like, the T&T star might actually overcome Hughes for the elusive yellow
In the replay, it was evident that Hughes used his hands to disrupt Richards from overtaking him and the panel decided it was enough evidence to strip the Englishman of his medal and award it to the Trinidad and Tobago star. The next two successful runners Canada’s Aaron Brown and Nigeria’s Leon Reid were given the silver and bronze medal respectively.
Here is how Twitter reacted to his moment of madness.
