Indian shuttlers P V Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth cruised through to the semi-final of the $120,000 Malaysia Masters Grand Prix Gold on Thursday, after earning comfortable victories in the quarters. While 10th seed Ajay Jayaram bowed out of the tournament after suffering a defeat, in straight games, to top seed Lee Chong Wei.

After earning a hard-fought win against Kaori Imabeppu of Japan, in the quarter-final yesterday, P V Sindhu sailed her way into the last four by registering a straight games victory over Lindaweni Fanetri. The third-seeded Indian looked in full flow as she eased past her opponent in less than half an hour with a score of 21-10, 21-10.

The World No.12 never gave her rival from Indonesia any chance as she used her height to outfox Fanetri. Sindhu will next face the winner of the match between top seed Sung Ji Hyun and Japanese fifth seed Sayaka Sato in the semi-final on Saturday.

In the Men’s Singles, second seed Kidambi Srikanth also confirmed his place in the semi-final after defeating unseeded Huang Yuxiang from China 21-15, 21-14. World No.9 Srikanth, who looked in prime form after defeating 16th seed Boonsak Posana in the quarters, continued his good start to the season as he finished the match in 33 minutes, by completely outplaying his Chinese opponent. Srikanth will now face unseeded Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin from Malaysia.

Ajay Jayaram though, bowed out of the tournament in the quarters after suffering a straight games defeat to top seed Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia. The Indian gave a tough fight to his superior opponent throughout the match, but the Malaysian’s experience helped him beat the 10th seeded Ajay 21-16, 21-16.
