With a win against Norway on Tuesday, the Indian men’s recurve archery team has qualified for the pre-quarterfinal round of the ongoing World Archery Championships being held in the Netherlands. The Indian men’s and women’s team are also in contention for the Tokyo Olympics quota places.

The Indian men’s and women’s teams are still in contention to make it to the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics and are one win away from achieving the same. According to the format of the World Championships, all the quarter-finalists will be awarded with the Olympics quotas and both the recurve teams have reached the pre-quarter final rounds.

The trio of Tarundeep Rai, Pravin Jadhav, and Atanu Das in the recurve section managed to beat Norway 5-1 to qualify for the Round of 16 in the competition. They will now play against Canada’s Eric Peters, Crispin Duenas, and Brian Maxwell on Wednesday with an aim of getting an Olympic quota and entering the quarter-finals of the global event.

The women’s team, on the other hand, finished sixth out of 55 teams in the qualifying round and remained in fray for the Olympic quota. The women archers will next face 11th seed Belarus in the next round on Wednesday. Laishram Bombayla Devi was the best among the female archers from India with a shot of 664 and finish at the 15th place while Deepika Kumari was at the 22nd position with a score of 660. Komalika Bari shot 650 and finished at the 40th place out of a total of 152 competitors.

The recurve mixed pair, however, lost in the first round. The Indian pair of Rai and Bombayla were defeated by the duo from Poland by a margin of 4-5 (17-19) in the shoot-off.
